Website HighEdWeb HighEdWeb Association

The HighEdWeb Volunteer Committee leads the development of initiatives and activities to inform, engage, and celebrate the volunteers that power the association. The committee is also responsible for assisting other association committees in recruiting new volunteers.

A general committee member is a low-commitment yet rewarding volunteer role and a great entry point for professionals new to HighEdWeb or volunteering. You’ll have the opportunity to network, learn new skills, participate in strategy discussions, and support the HighEdWeb community. Once you’re more familiar with the committee, you’re welcome to explore more specific roles, including leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Virtually attend monthly committee meetings.
  • Participate in committee discussions during meetings or in between meetings via Slack.
  • Share feedback on projects fellow committee members are working on.
  • Occasionally volunteer to help with committee tasks.

Qualifications

Required

  • Membership in the association, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete tasks in a timely manner (or communicate in advance if help or more time is needed).

Preferred

  • Ability to engage diverse communities and build relationships.
  • Ability to work with team communication platforms like Slack.
  • Proficiency with ClickUp or similar project management tools.
  • Proficiency with Google Drive.

(Training is provided for all software or systems committee members may use.)

Estimated Time Commitment

  • Committee members are expected to virtually attend monthly meetings, which are up to 1 hour, once per month.
  • Additionally, committee members could be expected to complete 1-2 additional hours per month of committee work, such as reviewing and writing feedback on projects or leading their own projects.

Length of Appointment

Up to one year. Volunteers are then encouraged to seek a specific role on the committee.

Growth Opportunities

By serving as a committee member, you will gain:

  • Experience with volunteer recruitment and development.
  • Experience serving on a committee for the association.
  • Experience building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A broader network of contacts that can help positively influence your career.
  • Access to HighEdWeb volunteer rewards

Committee members who reliably serve on this committee would be eligible to serve as a committee chair or vice chair in the future.
