Marketing and Communications Committee: Social Media Vice Chair

This role works as part of the Social Media Sub-Committee of the Marketing and Communications Committee, to monitor and respond to various social media channels, lead the subcommittee and assists the Chair in managing responsibilities related to social media management.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in recruiting and developing committee members as needed.
  • Co-manage the social media content calendar and approve scheduled content posts on Association social media platform (Buffer). 
  • Establish use of the HighEdWeb brand, including through official hashtags, voice, tone and shared assets.
  • Recommend tactics and tools to help HighEdWeb achieve its goals.
  • Serve as backup to social media team members during urgent situations when the social media team members are unavailable.
  • Promote HighEdWeb through personal social media and professional networks.
  • Attend all committee meetings.
  • Serves in place of the chair as needed.
  • Facilitate an environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Qualifications

Required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise with social media platforms, including best practices and promotional opportunities (inc. targeted paid campaigns)
  • Experience as a social media coordinator for an organization or business.
  • Understanding of organizational branding and how to further it on social media.
  • Proficient in content strategy theory and application.
  • Membership in the association, which can be fulfilled at application. (Free general membership for higher education professionals would meet this requirement.)
  • Familiarity with the Association.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines.

Preferred

  • Work experience in a public relations or marketing environment.
  • Ability to produce video or graphics.
  • Ability to work with project management/team communication platforms such as Slack, Clickup, etc.
  • Google Drive proficiency.

Estimated time commitment

  • The vice chair is expected to virtually attend monthly Social Media Sub-committee meetings.
  • Members are expected to virtually attend scheduled Marketing and Communications Committee meetings in the chair’s absence, if available.  
  • The time commitment for committee work varies, with a minimum of 1-2 hours per week.

Length of appointment

  • Up to two years as vice chair with the expectation to become chair once that position is vacated.
