Managing sprawling university websites is often a recipe for inconsistency. Numerous contributors with varying skills lead to poorly designed pages, accessibility issues and technical headaches. At Utah State University, we have created Tier 1 Support to combat this issue. Tier 1 Support is a service where we contract with various departments on campus, centralizing all website updates to our team in order to ensure on-brand design standards, accessibility compliance and a streamlined workflow. This approach benefits our partner units by freeing them up to focus on impactful content creation and allows our team to more effectively fill our role of ensuring quality, on-brand, accessible and usable websites for our audiences (and have some extra fun by going above and beyond what we can do with our standard “anyone can use it” CMS).
In our presentation, we’ll delve into the practical steps we took to successfully implement Tier 1 Support. We’ll cover strategies for building partnerships, managing requests and maintaining quality standards. Discover how to replicate this transformative model at your institution, creating (and maintaining) better websites and a more efficient use of resources.
