Join Anaya and Trisha to discuss the unique accessibility challenges your University library colleagues are facing, and what this means for you. We will discuss considerations for accessible library collections, where libraries have had accessibility success, and where we still struggle. As accessibility-minded professionals, it is important to understand the accessibility landscape in libraries, and partner with library colleagues to best serve students.
Learning material accessibility presents unique challenges and requires dedicated focus. Libraries collect resources used in courses and for research, and need to pay special attention to, and receive feedback for, collecting accessibly. Libraries partner with many vendors to provide students with course readings, research material, educational videos, data sets, and more. Without a thoughtful and systemic approach to accessibility, users are often hampered by accessibility barriers. Librarians should consider formalized product review processes that include system and content review, specific accessibility contract language and collaborative plans for future accessibility barriers.
As higher ed professionals with a focus on accessibility it is important to understand the importance of partnerships with your library, and the unique challenges librarians face in their accessibility work.
