McGill’s digital standards present an overview of the criteria for building and managing McGill’s websites and online services. Before the creation of this resource, awareness of these requirements was low. Details were scattered across a maze of websites and documents.
Combining our standards has resulted in several important organizational improvements including:
- A mature governance framework that facilitates our ability to respond to opportunities and challenges as tools and practices evolve (such as increased usage of generative AI).
- A firm foundation that supports our community of practice in building the best possible sites for our users.
- A fixed frame of reference guiding departmental web strategies and cross-departmental collaborations.
- A shared mechanism for our unified web team (comprised from communications and IT services) to evaluate and prioritize work.
Attend this presentation to get a close-up look at how our digital standards were established. Who was involved, what steps were taken and how on earth did we find time to work on a project like this?
